What is the Round Table?

The Round Table is a worldwide organisation for men between the ages of 18 and 45 years old. It is about creating memories and sharing experiences as well as helping out charities and the local community.

When did Round Table form?

Round Table was started by Louis Marchesi who was originally a member of Rotary International in Norwich. After being a Rotarian he decided to form his own organisation for young men. Round Table was started on the motto "Adopt, Adapt, Improve" and has grown from one club in Norwich into a worldwide organisation.

When was Round Table started?

Louis Marchesi founded Round Table in Norwich in 1926. This was based in Norwich where Louis lived.

How did the second group start?

The official Norwich Round Table group was started in Match 1927 but by 1929 the organisation had grown to twelve groups including Bristol 9 that was formed in 1928. This kept on growing and by 1937 there were 125 Tables in the United Kingdom. By the time 1968 had came the Round Table had over 1000 clubs in operation.

When did Round Table go international?

In 1936 Round Table went international with the Copenhagen Round Table being formed. At this current time the Round Table has a Table in every country in Europe and the Commonwealth.

What is the Round Table about?

The Round Table is about building relationships and has a number of different people from different backgrounds in a range of occupations. These people are a great benefit to proving skills to help improve the clubs and the community.

What good deeds does the Bristol Table 9 do?

The ethos of the Round Table is to bring the community together and raise money and spend time in the local community and for good causes. Our major event is the Bristol firework display at Canford Park, Westbury-on-Trym in November.

How often do you meet?

On average we have two events per month including a business meeting.

Where do you meet?

We hold the business meetings over dinner at Goldbrick House on Park Street but our events can be held at a multitude of locations all over the South-West.

Who can become a Tabler?

You have to be male and between 18 and 45 years old to join. Generally the members live in Bristol.

How can I join?

To join you will need to attend a few meetings as a guest. This is so you can see if the Round Table is for you and also to see if you are right for Table.

Does it cost to be a member?

Membership is £100 a year, this is to fund National and local running costs of Round Table. Activities and events cost but range between £10 and £30 with a standard meeting costing around £15 which includes a three course meal and wine.

What will I need to do as a member?

Number one is that you need to enjoy the Table and be comfortable. We normally expect people to attend over half of the meetings as a minimum. You will need to also participate in events, activities and fund raising.

What will I get from Table?

You will have great memories and an ever growing circle of friends and associates.
