History

The first Round Table was formed in Norwich by Louis Marchesi. Louis was a young member of Rotary International who felt a need for a club aimed at young business men of the town.

Louis had a vision for young men to exchange ideas, learn from the experiences of their colleagues, and contribute to the local town and community.

In the following 12 months from forming the first Table the interest has grown so much that the club had attracted 85 members and people around the country who wanted to start establishing other clubs.

The Round Table was a non-religious, non-political and non-sectarian club a ethos that still underpins the club today.

The second Round Table club opened soon after in Portsmouth which then caused the idea to really start to take off. When World War II began over 125 clubs existed with over 4,600 members.

The first overseas group was formed in Copenhagen in 1936 and while the movement carries on growing across Europe the war stopped the growth in the UK for a period.
